Tucson is in Pima County, Arizona. It is located 118 miles SE of Phoenix and 60 miles north of Mexico. Census estimates put the city's population at over 500,000 and the metropolitan population over 900,000. Tucson recently ranked as the 32nd-largest city in the country. It is the largest city in southern Arizona and the 3rd largest in the state after Phoenix and Mesa.

The most notable of these mountains is Sentinel Peak, better known as 'A' mountain because it hosts a large letter 'A' honoring the University of Arizona which is situated in west central Tucson. Tucson is often referred to as 'The Old Pueblo.'
